Our Crew
Paul Berriff (Director of Operation)
Founder crew member of Humber Rescue after several years in the Auxiliary Coast Guard. He has been a film maker and camera man and is now a hotelier.
Dave Roberts (Trustee/Coxswain)
Dave has over 40 years experience of the River Humber, having spent 5 years as a Pilot apprentice, starting in 1966 and 20 years in the Merchant Navy. He has been a member of Humber Rescue since 1989. Dave started off as crew number 11 and is now crew number 1.
Martin Rumford (Trustee/Coxswain)
Martin joined in late 1994. He became a trustee in 2005. Despite being the oldest crew member, Martin is still one of the fittest. He is currently employed as a lecturer at Hull College.
Ian Bennett (Senior Crewman/Trainer)
Ian joined in 1993. He is employed as a Manufacturing Technician at a local factory. Ian has worked his way through the ranks at Humber Rescue to become the Senior Crewman and Coxswain.
Mark Bloomfield (Coxswain)
Mark is employed as a mobile vehicle mechanic for prestigious cars. He is a boat owner and his family have all been members of Brough Yacht Club. He therefore has a lot of experience of the rivers in the region. He has been a member of Humber Rescue since the early 1990's.
Neil Bell (Trustee/Treasurer/Coxswain)
Neil has been a member of Humber Rescue for 5 years. He is qualified in boat handling, communications and first aid. He is a company director for Happy New Car Ltd.
Steve Goodens (Coxswain/Trainer)
Steve joined Humber Rescue in 1996. He has been employed at BAR Systems for over 20 years as an Aircraft Engineer. He has trained as a Coxswain and enjoys outdoor adventure sports such as rock climbing and mountain biking.
Marcus Whereat (Coxswain/Trainer/H&S)
Marcus joined in 2003. He was a Radio Operator in the RAF for 13 years and is has been a Police Officer for the past 9 years. He has skills in radio operations and first aid. He has recently taken on a joint training role and Health and Safety role in Humber Rescue.
John Howitt (Training coordinator)
John joined Humber Rescue at the end of 2005. He was a Combat Medic in the Army for 22 ½ years and brings advanced first aid skills as well as being radio trained and an experienced trainer. He is now a freelance first aid and Health and Safety trainer.
Clare Rumford (Crew)
Claire raised some money for Humber Rescue about 12 years ago. At about the same time her father became a member and before she knew it she had become a crew member herself. Claire has found it challenging, especially being the only female crew member for some time.
"I have realised that being here and holding down a full time job as a bus driver you don't get a social life (not good for a 21 year old)."
Martin Norman (Crew)
Martin joined the crew in 2004. He is a fully qualified fabrication welder with over 20 years experience. He joined Humber Rescue to put something back into the community. Martin also uses his trade skills within the Humber Rescue organisation.
James Burns (Coxswain)
James is a local garage owner and keen boating enthusiast. He joined Humber Rescue in 2004. James offers availability as a crew member for daytime callouts and is currently being trained to be coxswain of the Olive Hunt.
Peter Quinlan (Crew)
Peter has been with Humber Rescue for one year. He is a qualified technician working for Toyota. In his spare time he enjoys going out with his girlfriend and friends, which is vary rare thanks to his Humber Rescue duties.
Tony Sole (Crew)
Tony joined Humber Rescue in early 2006. He has been a security guard at the Hull University for the past 28 years. Tony has a passion for boats and the water and has been a BSAC diver for several years, where he also gained his diver coxswain award. Tony hopes he can expand his experience with Humber Rescue and put his knowledge to some good use and help save lives.
Graham Anderson (Coxswain)
Graham joined in September 2006 and is currently employed as an Aerospace Engineer. He has a keen interest in boats and currently restoring a 1943 Naval Launch.
Mike Cass (Crew)
Mike joined in summer 2006. He grew up with a boating family and a love for the sea.
"As a full time engineer and crew with Humber Rescue there is not a lot of spare time but it's worth it."
Rob Tallett (Crew)
"I thought joining a bunch of people who willingly give up their free time and sometimes sleep to jump into a rubber suit and bounce around on the River sounded like a challenge to me."
Tom Dickinson (Crew)
Tom has been involved with Humber Rescue for 18 months. He joined to give something back to the community. Tom works full time as a joiner.
Martin Jackson (Crew)
Martin, a business man from North Ferriby, joined Humber Rescue June 2007 and is currently undergoing an intense period of training to get him operationally ready to respond to callouts.
Bob Atkin (Boathouse Support)
Bob has been involved for a number of years and, until very recently, he carried a pager to respond to launches. Bob is now 80 years old but he still supports Humber Rescue every weekend.
Margaret Jay (Boathouse Support)
Margaret has been helping out around the boathouse since summer 2006. She also takes a keen interest in fundraising.
Helen Anderson (Boathouse Support)
"My hubby Graham joined the crew and I soon became involved in Fundraising as I realised how valuable Humber Rescue is to the local area."
