Arctic Corsair to the Rescue

On Sunday March 11th Humber Rescue crew carried out a major training exercise on the Arctic Corsair on the River Hull. During the exercise crew members also practiced boat handling skills in the confines of the River Hull and casualty transfer from Arctic Corsair to the Rescue Boat.

The exercise was a big success with the crew practicing first aid techniques in confined spaces, casualty evacuation and communications. Humber Rescue would like to thank all the volunteers on Arctic Corsair for their help.

The Arctic Corsair

The Arctic Corsair was was the last of the Hull side fishing vessels or 'side winders'. A veteran of the Cod Wars, the Arctic Corsair was rammed by an Icelandic gun boat in the 1970s. She had a long and successful career despite the decline of the local fishing industry after 1975 and the imposition of the 200 mile limits.

The Arctic Corsair is now preserved as a visitor attraction within the Museums Quarter, on the River Hull between Drypool Bridge and Myton Bridge, at the rear of the Streetlife Museum. The ship is staffed and maintained by a team of volunteers who keep her in tip top condition and show visitors around her amazing interior. Visit the Hull City Council website for more information on the Arctic Corsair.
